Vocalist | Writer | Producer|
New Orleans— Mississippi-born, Louisiana-raised singer-songwriter Tonya Boyd-Cannon is no stranger to the music scene. Currently, appearing as a contestant on Season 8 of NBC's #1 rated music competiton show, The Voice, she is setting the world on fine. Being coached by Maroon 5 front-man and mega-talent, Adam Levine, Boyd-Cannon has found a mentor, confidante, and comrade.
The daughter of a preacher, she has been singing since she was a child. Although most of her musical training came by way of high school and middle school band directors, Boyd-Cannon is a classically trained vocalist studying vocal performance at Tougaloo College. She says of her musical background, “I love to sing. Whether I’m singing jazz, funk, classical, rock, gospel, reggae or neo-soul, I perform like it’s my last time. I try to use all my gifts to my fullest potential.” She continues, “I believe I have grown so much as an artist. My songs are really about me sharing my love of music and my soul with other music lovers. I am extremely excited and dedicated to music and musician-ship.” As an artist, Boyd-Cannon plays piano, organ, drums and saxophone.
Tonya Boyd-Cannon, New Orleans' Vocalist & The Voice' Season 8 Team Adam Member, will be performing live at the 2015 Essence Festival.
